My car used to overheat I would put in water but water would disappear. So I could not find a leak. So this other day when I tried to start it would not start. Something said to me I should check the oil dip stick and I could see the traces of water in the dip stick. I want to make sure is it really that. What is the best way to fix it my engine? It is dismantled already.

Can I just get a new cylinder head gasket or what else can I check for before mount it back?

Thanks in advance,
George

When you took it apart did you see any head gasket failure? If not I would have the cylinder head pressure tested to make sure it is not cracked. Can you upload pictures of the suspected bad parts?

Thanks, when I took it apart It was not obvious that the head gasket failed but I will take the advise and send it out for pressure testing. Also when I do a naked eye inspection I do not see any cylinder head cracks. Is it possible to do a visual inspection and would it be obvious to see the failure?

It is difficult to see cracks with the naked eye. I would also check the cylinder bores as well.
