Keep in mind this problem only occurs when the weather is warm and I am driving in stop and go traffic......When stopped (after being in stop and go traffic for at least a few minutes) RPMs read 2000-3500 and engine sounds as if the accelerator is being pushed. This occurs no matter what gear car is in, even nuetral, with clutch in or out. It has happened off and on for awhile now. Last week, while stuck in traffic the RPMs went over 4000 and the car began to overheat.
