DISC BRAKE PAD MODIFICATION TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN Reference Number(s): 06-33-04,  Date of Issue:   January 15, 2004 Related Ref Number(s): 06-33-04 ARTICLE BEGINNING INTRODUCTION The purpose of this bulletin is to address unevenly or prematurely worn brake pads. There is the possibility that the pads are too tight in the caliper and have insufficient clearance as a result of rust buildup and dirt. If that is the case, the backplate of the disc brake pads will need to be slightly filed no more than 0.1mm (0.0039") on each end to remove the rust. REPAIR PROCEDURE/INFORMATION Be extremely careful when filing the backplate of the inner and outer brake pad. Make sure that both ends are filed evenly; do not file shorter than the dimensions shown below (Fig. 1 & Fig. 2 ). Failure to do so will create a rattle or clank noise. Thanks for the tip on filing the pad, but I was looking for alternate parts that might last longer than OEM. For example, would Hawk Performance or ATE PremiumOne ceramic pads and Brembo replacement rotors last longer than standard Subaru replacement parts?

Ceramics are the hardest brake pad material, and will wear the longest, Rotors, I used to use Brembo. Just stay away from the Chinese "white box" rotors and it shouldnt be too bad.
