Traveling in the mountains at high altitude, the car overheated. I pulled to the side of the road and let the car cool down and put some water in the radiator. The car started and ran fine for awhile, then overheated again. Again, I pulled over and the car cooled down. The car started again, but when I push on the gas pedal the car makes a loud ticking noise which seems to be coming from the engine. I had the car towed several miles as did not want to do any damage.

What could this loud ticking noise be?

Thank you

Hello,

Did you add more water the 2nd time? Also have you checked the oil? It could be that the oils vescosity has failed do to the overheating and isn't lubracating properly. The ticking could also be a burnt valve.
