The power steering is out on my 2000 Subaru Outback and the check engine, battery, and brake lights are illuminated.

Any ideas?

I hate to ask this, but how exactly would one go about doing that?

Hi pipp22,

On one side of the engine you would see some belts. Start engine and see if they are turning together with the round pulley at bottom.

Hope the belts are still there, if not you have nothing to see.

Turn on AC and see if it blows cold.

The A/C hasn't blown cold air for quite some time.

I will go check the belts now, though.

Ah yes. A belt has split and isn't turning.

I assume I simply need to buy a replacement belt and switch them out?

I thought of a couple additional items while I was away from the computer.

How will I know what belt(s) to buy and how to correctly replace them? Are there any diagrams/etc. online?

Thanks!

hi pipp22, If one belt is bad, the others should be almost gone too, get them all replaced.

For correct size, you need to get the belt part numbers. Ask at the parts outlet, they might be able to assist.

If you are serious about DIY, I would suggest getting a repair manual.

Check out the Car Repair Video Series link to see if there is any on belt replacement.
