1997 Subaru Outback type of oil

I took my car in to have the front differential flushed out. I was told it was not needed but it was low on oil so they filled it up. I am concerned because I do not know what type of oil was already in there and the manual says not to mix different manufacturers of oil.

motor oil yes if different grades and manufacterors are being used with different additives.

with the differential a top off of the recommended fluid wont harm anything.
