Problem

My Subaru 1996 outback legacy 70.000 miles has been dying at stop lights (or long idled portions of time) and it is little hard to start again ,
skiping on high ways ( not always ) , most of the time this problem happen when the car is warm , I would say after driving it for more than 10 miles , no trouble codes in memory though .
problem doesn't happen all the time though , every once a while .
Any help
Thanks
ps: known car hardly been used for the past 5 years, it is like new shape , rides like a dream , problem started 10 days ago .

hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I would as a starting point replace the fuel filter and closely inspect all the vacuum hoses, did you actually do a scan? not all fault codes give a check light, i would also get the coil output voltages check with the engine hot as you can get a coil breaking down when it has warmed up, start here.

The coil output will have to be check with an oscilloscope, and preferably on a dyno to simulate the actual engine load, this is the best way to check a coil an ohm meter test will not show any load failure.

A new set of plugs won't hurt but i doubt that that will fix the problem, i am leaning more to a coil problem, also have you ever had the injectors cleaned?

I am still of a mind that this is electrical, one check you can do, when it will not start easily, after a few cranks, pull a plug, if it is wet and sooty, more evidence that it is electrical.
