Purchased recently and knew it had engine noise/knock. 13k ago owner had head gaskets, timing belt, tensioners, water pump done. Engine noise is most prominent between 2500-3000 rpm and does not get better as operating temp increases and in non- subaru lingo would describe it as rod bearing, wrist pin sound. prev owner said it got worse after major repair done. I would appreciate any guidance or info that I could use to put my mechanic on the right trail. thanks

ps. IF car was run hot 14k to 15k ago what would be your best guess as to what that would have caused?

Some Subaru engines are know to be noisey. I have a 99 and the valves on the left bank have continued to be noisey. I run about 80 psi oil pressure when started then goes down to 40. iyou said the owner had the headgasket timing belt water pump replaced. The mechanics of the engine such as lifters rings or rods have not been done. If the owner said it got worse after having these things done I would think it may be a couple of lifters. You say it overheated if it had overheated to such a degree it may have done damage to the block itself. Have the mechanic start with listening to where the noise is coming from and evaluate from there.
