Heater problem
1996 Subaru Outback 4 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

New water pump, new 170 degree thermostat, new radiator, new hoses, slight head gasket leak...temperature still a little above the halfway mark. Is there a 160 degree thermostat I can put in untill I get my head gasket fixed or should I take the thermostat out for the time being? I could imagine that some gases are coming out with every cumbustion causing the coolant to hear up somewhat.

Hi there,

You can drill a small hole in the thermostat to allow a little more flow to get the temp down a bit more.
