I have a 2001 Outback with around 65k mileage. Just had drive belts replaced, but Power Steering belt made a groaning sound when turning. I took it back for adjustments, and while it is better, there is still noise. The mechanic said it will make a bit of noise for a short time. Is this correct?

The mechanic could be right - he could also be full of it. Depending on what "adjustments" he made.

If he just tightened up the power steering belt - I don't see any reason why it would continue to make noise.

However If he had to drain/fill the power steering fluid, then yes, for a short time you'll hear some moaning and groaning while the fluid is drawn out of the resevoir into the power steering system.

It's usefull to always check the fluid after having it changed (after a couple days) and top it up as required.
