I am experiencing a loud "whizzing sound" coming from the engine? possibly when I accelerate. Sometimes, I hear a "popping sound" during acceleration and then Whizzing sound (higher the acceleration, the louder the whizzing sound). When I lay off the gas (coast) it doesn't whiz.

What would this be?

Could be an accesory on the engine, or a bearing on the front(timing belt idler or such)
