Car won't start or have power with key turned in ignition

I have a 1997 Subaru Outback Wagon. 163K. 5 cylinder engine.
i arrived back at work from a business trip and upon getting in my car to drive home i found no power with the key turned in the ignition or even a turn over when attempting to start. answer?

Your battery is run down could be a short in the electrical system or a battery case drain. Get the battery up to snuffy and if it still refuses to fire up comeback and we'll get into deep6 theory.
