I have a '94 Subaru Legacy L, FWD AT at about 160,000 miles. Last night the battery light came on after I started it up and eventually I lost all power, starting with the lights dimming then the clock flashing. It started up fine and still turns over (it doesn't just click) but won't fire.

I replaced the battery about three years ago and the belts were replaced around 125,000 miles. Other than the battery, the only problem I've had with the car was a short in the wiring for the lights (running lights and brake lights worked, but no tail lights or corner lights).

I had the car towed to the only dealer with an open lot–a Dodge dealer across the street from the Subaru dealer. Should I be concerned about anything other than the alternator, and how much should I expect the repairs to cost me?

I find it odd that the battery light came on and all lights dimmed til the car died, yet it turns over ok? Could have lost a power to the interior or PCM maybe. Since it turned over and wouldnt start, did you happen to check for spark? Price will depend on the quality of the replacement part used and labor at the shops rate. Sounds like you might have a little more going on if what you describe is accurate
