1997 Subaru Legacy vlaue of repairing

Buying a replacement used car is always a worry, you may just be picking up someone's headache that they have off loaded, and new may be out of the question, so what to do??? what you have reported is not really that unusual for may on going repairs, what do you mean by knock engine replace? does the engine have a bearing knock problem?

The Knock engine should have said the knock sensor.
when the car is on and at a stop - it shakes.
will the front rotor and knock sensor replacement correct this problem.
And is it dangerous not to replace the rotors?
At what point should they be replaced?

neither of these will cause the engine to shake, this may just be a tune issue, the knock sensor is a device that detects engine vibration at a frequency that is not detectable by human ears, this sends information to the ECU to re adjust the ignition timing so that the engine does not ping or pre detonate under load, this is normally heard as a rattle when accelerating hard, The rotors must be measured for minimum thickness, if under size they must be replaced, as for this shaking, get the comps tested and have the general tune checked first.

I was told that the knock sensor and the rotors make the car shake.
and after getting them replaced the shaking will stop.
Guess i am getting bad advice from car service places here.

Hi there,
Basic tune up will be air & fuel filter, spark plugs, leads if a DFI engine or cap rotor & leads if distributor type ignition, a scan to check for any unresolved fault codes, as for a mechanic in you're area, sorry can't help there as i live in Australia.
