The car went 5000 miles over the recommended 5000 mile oil change interval. The repair shopped reported that no oil was showing on the dip stick before they changed the oil. There was no indication of low oil pressure via the instruments prior to the service or abnormal noise from the engine. Within 10 minutes of leaving the shop after the service the engine stopped running. The repair shop found a seized cam bearing and broken cam sprocket. Is the obvious conclusion that we are at fault for waiting too long for the oil change and running the engine with a low oil level?
