1995 Subaru Legacy shifter button

The shifter button sometimes won't go in, therefore not allowing me to get out of park. It was occassional at first, but now it's pretty regular. How do I fix it?

Two common possibilities

1- brake light switch
step on the brake and check if lights is on as they should if not suspect brake light switch and if need adjustment
switch is located on top by the brake paddle

2-Shift Lock Solenoid (A/T)
Located At base of shift lever
When stepped on brakes it should actuate and allow you to shift out of park

always check fuses 1st

check fuses
check fuse #1 ,2 and 12
