According to the maintenance suggested by Subaru, the timing belt should be replaced around 100,000 miles. However, they say it will cost $1,200. Is this an accurate price?

Hello,

Yes $1,200 is about the average cost. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up another couple hundred more. Subaru's can be a pain at times.

[quote="melandy"]2005 Subaru Impreza 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 110,00 miles Ok, I have been an auto tech for the last 10 years... No 1,200 is a ridiculous price... I pulled 2 2.2 engines this weekend changed timing belts, oil pump, exhaust gaskets, oil, plugs, you name it i did it... I also got an estimate on having the motor pulled at a very good local garge and their grand total with some main seals and oil seperator plate r&r was only 500.. 1,200 would be highway robbery , and Subarus are only annoying to people whom doesnt work on them... Sorry but the meachanic wannabe who answered your question pissed me off....

[quote="theryano1"] Well this Mechanic Wannabe has been an Auto Tech 3 times longer than you. And most garages depending on there location in the USA will charge about $1200 for the job. I have worked on quite a few Subaru's and they can be a pain at times. If I were to do the job the cost would be about $750. The cost of any job will depend on location, labor rate, and part prices. Oh, by the way get over yourself. If you don't agree thats is fine. You just need to take into consideration the above mentioned in red.
