Hi,
I just acquired a Subaru impreza 1999 manual.
When I accelerate slowly through the gears the car drives fine.
But when I need more power for a hill or to take off the line quickly or whatever. Basically, when I hit the gas hard, the car seems to accelerate at the same rate if not slower, while the RPMs get really high, then after a short time, it seems as if the gear fully engages and the car pulls away normally.
It drives fine for the most part, but when I need to go up hills or accelerate quickly the RPMs will get really high when I hit the gas, then decrease down to a normal level before I get power in that particular gear. Wheras a normal gear shift car would accelerate as fast as possible given the maximum amount of gas, while keeping the RPMs at a level relative to the speed you're going in that gear. In my case, the RPMS will shoot up in any gear based on whether I gas it hard and not based on my speed.
So far as I can tell it happens in all the gears.
I've driven manual cars all my life, and have never experienced this symptom. I have also never driven a subaru before.
Any insight, or advice or diagnostic information would be extremely helpful. Thank you.
