1997 Subaru Impreza fuel problem

My 1997 subaru is driving me crazy. It spits and sputters like it isn't getting enough fuel. I have replaced the knock sensor, fuel and air filter, spark plugs and wires, even the gas cap. The check engine light will not come on. Now it has gotten so bad it just shuts off altogether. What's next? Could it be the fuel pump itself? Any help would be appreciated so.

We may have the same problem?, yet no answer and a beautifully parked 2.5 RS... no codes and shes acting like theres no fuel, white hot plugs and a bad un-burnt fuel smell... Perhaps the cat? and no code? i just checked my timing , all is well and it still runs like crap.. ocaisionally. SEE A REAL HUMDINGER "parked-Till-Payday"
