1989 Subaru Impreza 6 cyl Automatic

my starter is engagingbut will no turn the engine i removed the starter and tested it itengaged and it would turn but when i replace it it will engage but will not turn the engine

Hi there, make sure that the engine will turn over by hand, and if that is OK, the starter will be faulty in particularly the Bendix drive unit, have this tested.
