I have a 2004 Subaru Forester (non-turbocharged), and recently attempted to change the engine air filter. There is a bolt that secures the housing to the car, and the usual clips. I can remove the bolt and the clips, but the housing is positioned so it is slightly under the body, toward the cabin. I cannot lift it out to adequately access the entire filter to remove it. Additionally, it seems the hose should be removed as well, but there isn't a clamp on it.

I've replaced air filter's before on at least 3 other types of cars I've had, but this one is positioned to make it as hard as possible. What's the trick for this model and year?

If it is positioned under the body, you will most likely need to remove the entire air filter box to access it.
