Hi,

I am looking at this vehicle for possible purchase but it has an oil leak in the vicinity of the oil filter. The owner said she had a mechanic check it, and he allegedly told her it had an "oil filter gasket leak" that would cost about $140 to fix. This sounded odd to me because I think of oil filter gaskets being part of the oil filter, and if the oil filter were leaking it would be a simple matter of replacing the oil filter. The oil filter was oily on the outside and leaked oil had collected in the metal plate area below. There was also oil around a metal to rubber hose connection down in that area.

What do you think?

to fix the oil filter leak yes simply replace oil filter but the oil leak may be coming from the oil pan also. check there ;)
