Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1999 Subaru Forester All Wheel Drive Automatic

I believe my Universal joint has gone bad. The car shakes when excellerating, and then smooths out when excellerator is released. I got under the vehicle and twisted the U-joint with my hand and there is quite a bit of play (1/2in - 1in). I just want to get confirmation that my diagnosis is correct before I begin to disassemble it. Also is there information on doing this job on your web site?

Hi there,
Ensure that you hold both halves of the uni and twist or feel for up and down movement, if you just twist the tail shaft you will be feeling the diff back lash which is normal, check this before going any further as 1/2 " movement in a uni is extreme.

You can PM the original poster and see if they can use anything from the manual, if so you can scan and Email to him if he wants.
