Transmission stuck in park

I actually have a 2008 gl550 Mercedes. I turn it on and runs just fine, but I can't get it out of park. On the display it says the door is open and the car is not in park.

More than likely the not shifting out of park is the shifter itself. It has what is called a shift lock. Basically it needs to see the brakes depressed and then a solenoid releases the locks. Start by starting the vehicle and pressing on the brakes and check to see if the brake lights work. If they are working then the shifter is the issue. If the brake lights are not working then we need to test the stop lamp switch.
