Stuck in 4 low?

The other day when I started up my vehicle and began driving something totally fell off on my vehicle. I then realized that the 4 Low light was flashing on my dash. I have young kids and there have been a few other instances where my 4wd knob had been knocked into the 4low position and I just turn it back to the all-wheel drive mode (not sure if that's what it's called but it's the regular setting that I always drive in). So I thought maybe that's what had happened again so I turned the knob and it wasn't going back out of 4low so I tried a few different things such as driving forward a little bit and then reversed a bit, I tried putting it in neutral, and whatever else I could think of to try and get it out of 4low but no luck! So, I ended up just parking it and I haven't driven it since because I don't want to mess more things up by trying to drive it in 4low. On a side note, one of my daughters confessed that she had spilled her drink near the switch the day before but wiped it up before I saw. So, I don't know if that has something to do with what's going on or not. Any ideas where to start or what to do as I can't really afford an insanely high mechanic bill at the moment.
