Stretched shifting cable

The shifting lever was stretched so I forced it down into drive and then back up in the park. It was working, but now it just freezes goes back-and-forth that is stuck in low gear. Is it a hard job to change the shift cable?

you may need to center console to access this. instructions are for Mx6 and 626 Protégé not covered. so may be similar. See pictures below
