When i bought my truck the ABS and brake light stayed on anytime the vehicle was running, after sitting for over a year and being repaired to some extent (new battery, fresh fuel, fuel pump, front wheel speed sensor, camshaft position sensor, distributor cap, plugs and wires, exhaust with catalytic converter delete.} Now the ABS and brake light will turn off sometimes when i push the brakes and will stay off for the duration (even after turning truck off and back on after several minutes). When the lights turn off the brakes have a strange popping sensation/grinding noise only at the final bit of a complete stop, not when slowing or even when starting from a complete stop or new start, only when i actually get to a complete stop and start to release the pedal to stop slowly does this happen. It doesn't seem to happen if i continuously press the brakes with steady pressure with no slight release as i come to a standstill. Please help me understand what the issue is and how to fix it.

This sounds like the master cylinder is the issue. There clearly could be more issues but the brake pedal feel and noise sound like a master issue.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

Before you replace it, we need to check and make sure you have no external leaks. If you don't then I would replace the master and then recheck the operation of the rest of the system.

I attached the process below from the manual.

Let me know what questions you have. Thanks
