strange howling sound coming from engine bay

intermittent howling noise from D4D engine. Makes a this noise every time I start it on a cold engine but goes away once the engine has warmed up, and sometimes returns even when it is warm and running,

I've replaced the power steering belt, but did not change the alternator belt as it looked in good condition, however it still makes the noise, its really embarrassing! , and expert mechanical advice from someone would be highly appreciated. p.s car has had a full service including fuel filter etc. here is the link to my sound issue

ll belt and tensioner replacement is recommended at 60-90,000 mi. disconnect alternator belt and start engine see if it's still there . could be a pulley with a bearing as well.

Thanks for the reply, a lot of people on YouTube said it's the fuel filter cap or something, it started making the sound straight after the service, I will try to disconnecting the alternator belt, thanks for your time.

if it were your fuel filler cap your check engine light would come on.

That does make sense sir. I have found a low mileage alternator would it be a good idea to change the alternator as it could be a bearing bush or clutch pulley making the strange howl? .

no do what I said in first reply so you can identify the area if it's not in accessories then it's in engine and you would have wasted your money on an alternator that you don't need.

Hi, i decided to get the alternator changed to eliminate it, unfortunately the howling has not stopped. do you think it can be the oil pump? I did have a mechanic guess that, and also the noise seems to be coming from the left so can it possibly be the fuel filter housing?

It's just so confusing sir plays with your head, shall I try the fuel filter cap or the oil pump, it's just I have zero knowledge about mechanical components? , kind regards.

place the fuel filter then have a local mechanic look at it if it still is doing it. I have no further suggestions.
