The sensor will be a pressure sensor, it tells the PCM that steering load is applied and at low speed and low rpm it increases engine rpm slightly to compensate for the added engine load. All hydraulic power steering systems have this, i need some more information as to where your switch is located. most are in the rack, but they can also be in the high pressure line. i need to know body version Quattro? Base? etc and i only see a two liter version not a 1.8 as noted in your post. please re check and also a VIN number can help as well.

Okay, with that information i cannot see any sensor on your rack, just the steering angle sensor behind the steering wheel. if the rack supplied has a sensor, i do not think that it will be a problem, as it just monitors steering oil pressure.
