I disconnected the battery and when I reconnected the battery a steering wheel icon showed
up. I did some research and found out the electronic steering needs to be reset but the procedures I found didn't work.

This is true that the module most likely needs to be reset but that may require a scan tool to do what is called an initialization.

However, before we do anything we should check to see what codes are there.

When you drive the vehicle does the power steering operate? Have you noticed anything different other than the light?

Basically, we should have a code that will point us in the right direction so let's start with this and go from there.
