I have a Toyota highlander 04 that's having trouble steering, it's really hard to move the wheel. I've checked the steering fluid and it's full, a family friend mechanic also looked at it, and replaced the power steering pump thinking that was the problem. But it was not, it went on and off steering hard around corners, extra hard when you first turn it on, and even after a second replacement pump it still remained to do so. But now it's hard 24/7 not just half the time.

If the pump has been replaced and fluid is ok, you will ave to check out the rack and the high pressure lines to may sure that they are not damaged have you hit anything that may have caused steering damage?

Thank you for your reply, I haven't hit anything. I will let the family mechanic know to check the line, just last night it suddenly was steering smoothly again, yet now today when I started her up it's hard steering again.

Ended up the pump I ordered was faulty, the guy who installed it said the two others he got from the same place and installed in other cars were crap and not working so it seems a part problem. Hopefully a good pump will be delivered soon as a replacement, for the 3rd time. Bad supplier.
