I am going to replace the non-telescoping steering column with one that telescopes.
I know exactly how to do this but it will entail removing and reinstalling the clock spring. If I buy a new clock spring it will come with a plastic immobilizing stop that pulls out after installation. I don't need to buy a new clock spring. I want to keep the clock spring I have because there is nothing wrong with it. How can I remove it and maintain it in a fixed position during the removal and reinstallation? Can I buy an immobilizing plastic insert like the kind that comes with a new clock spring or can I improvise and cut out and shape a piece of plastic and tape it in the hole to achieve immobility?
