Original lock key cylinder key can be removed, but you can still start the truck without the key being inserted. I replaced the lock key cylinder with a new after market. The new assembly works except the key won't release from the new lock cylinder. The only way the key will release is if you remove the lock key cylinder from the steering column. Also, the steering wheel won't go into it's locked position. Is the problem inside the steering column itself? Also the the on the column shifter won't go into park. Can you please tell me what would be the cheapest and fastest resolution to this problem? I was thinking about going down the junk yard and replacing the whole steering column assembly.

Yes, the gear on the rear of the lock cylinder must be one tooth off, please remove it and reinsert it while rotating it slightly, please get back to me.

Ken, are you talking about the plastic keyway where the rear of the lock cylinder locks into place? If this is the case, can I access through the lock cylinder's hole in the steering column or do you have to take the steering column's head apart to access the gear? I don't have a lot of experience on steering columns. Which method will be easier, accessing and rotating the gear or changing the steering column?

I think accessing the gear would be easier, but I have had people replace the column as well. What ever you you feel more comfortable with.
