On turning the key to "on" position three additional lights show on dashboard, these are 1) system management 2) engine management 3) water in fuel. Turning the key to start position does not initiate cranking (new battery installed one week ago). On knocking the dashboard a few times above lights extinguish and engine can be started. This is a random phenomena. Local Ford dealer technician opened the dashboard and checked out all of the wiring they were okay, but the scan could not identify the fault. It looks like protection interlock activation does not allow energizing the starter motor. Are there any PCB's, power control modules etc. which might malfunction? Has anybody reported similar problem with Ikon Duratorque 1.4?

Hello,

We have not heard of anyone having this kind of problem, it sounds like the BCM is going bad which controls the items you have described, has the car had any water damage?

Thanks Ken,

Car has not been subjected to any water flooding and it seems electronic failure. Grateful if you can answer below queries..
1) Is entire instrument cluster needs to be replaced to fix the problem or there are replaceable sub-assemblies / modules which can be identified defective to reduce cost of replacement since all gauges / lights are not defective.
2) What does BCM stand for B...? Control Module. Owners manual mentions PCM (Power Control Module ?) which is protected by a 3A fuse (found blown but fuse replacement did not help)
3) Rough idea of parts cost.

Thanks once again for your help.

Regards,
SK Gupta

The BCM stands for body control module, but I apologize your car does not have one, it will be the PCM causing the problem. I would do a pin to pin check on the all the system grounds first though because of the blown fuse which could be an indication of this problem. Here are the wiring diagrams for the computer so you can check the computer ground which look like they are at he front fender.

Please let us know what you find

Best, Ken

There is a minor leak in the fuel delivery line between the fuel pump and tank which allows air to get into the system.

Check for signs of diesel fuel stain, especially at hose joints. Sometimes such leaks are not noticeable and one way of testing is to install an electrical pump between the lines to pressurise the hoses to check for leaks.

Run a scan, check for unresolved fault codes, possibly a crank angle or cam angle sensor fault, start here.
