Chances are the fuel pressure is dropping when the engine is off. Try this. Cycle the switch from off to the run position three times, waiting a couple seconds in the run position before turning it back off. If pressure is an issue, that will allow the fuel pump to re-pressurize the system and then when you try to start the engine, it should go right away. Also, if you have a fuel pressure gauge, you can connect it, start the engine to check fuel pump pressure, and then turn the engine off and the pressure should hold for some time. One last thing, often times, worn plugs will cause a delayed start. It has a lot of miles, so if it hasn't been tuned up recently, that may a consideration.

Check out this guide for hard starting.

This is a real common problem caused by the battery was recently disconnected or run dead. The Engine Computer lost its memory and has to relearn "minimum throttle" before it will know when it has to be in control of idle speed. Until then you may need to hold the accelerator pedal down 1/4" to start the engine, you wont get the nice idle flare-up to 1500 rpm at start-up, and it will tend to stall at stop signs.

To meet the conditions for the relearn to take place, drive at highway speed with the engine warmed up, then coast for at least seven seconds without touching the pedals.

Try this spray some carb cleaner into the throttle body and see what happens-if it starts and dies out-check the fuel pressure. If it doesn't check the igntion system then report back your findings.

No crank at all/nothing/nada:

Could be the starter, starter relay, clutch switch/park and neutral switch and ignition switch assuming the battery and connections are good.

No problem but as I try to start car, there is no noise, no clicks, nothing. Why? First of all, a click clack kind of noise started sounding while I drove the car on the freeway. Then when I coasted, sometimes the car would just shut off, I would have to pull over, turn car off, and start it up again. This started about 2-3 months ago, sporadically.

Then, the car started to have trouble getting into gears (from P to D, P to R, D to R and back...) all the while, the click-clack noise (coming from under the hood i think) was still there... This started getting worst only about 2 weeks ago....

And now, the car won't even start. =( i turn the key in the ignition, all the lights work, windows roll up and down, radio turns on) and then I go to start the car and ...... nothing. No click, No sounds, nothing. I don't know what is going on...

Any advice?

**No crank at all/nothing/nada when key is engage to starting position

Could be a blown fusible link, the starter, starter relay, clutch switch/park and neutral switch/transmission position switch and ignition switch assuming the battery condition and connections are good. Note:If it doesn't apply disregard.

Last week it was idling high at red lights ...then last night just before pulling into the driveway the battery light came on then all the lights came on and the air conditioner started blowing hot air. When we parked the car shut off and won't start .... It makes a clicking sound and the lights one on but it won't turn over. The engine is new the alternator is new and the battery is new... What could this be?

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, Do you hear the fuel pump come On when you turn key on? If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay if okay-check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing

You should start investigating the no spark issue 1st
Check or replace the crank sensor
Try to get codes also
Good luck

Hi:
Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for power to the smaller wire on the starter. You should have 12 volts. Let me know what you find.

Can you explain the symptoms clearer?

For example:

Does it turn over a lot before it starts?

Does it turn over real slow?

What do you mean by hard crank? Does it sound differently when the starter is engaged? If so, have you checked timing?

Yes it sounds different than a normal start. The timing belt? I didn't think if that since it had to e loosen to take the alternor off. IDK Im lost with this car. It's too nice of a car to let it go. Doesn't sound like fuel pump is turning on when tryin to start the car that's y we changed the fuel pump

Since it sounds differently, check timing. If I recall, this year has a chain which usually won't break. However, I have seen them jump a tooth.

Let me know what you find.,

Have a 2005 Dodge Magnum 3.5. Have a problem starting car. It is an issue with the security system or some computer system. If i lock doors as normal and unlock doors and enter vehicle and put key in and turn key. There are NO lights (absolutely no dash lights) on dash and nothing when I turn the key. If i do the same procedure and turn the key and wait aprox 10 seconds the lights on dash will come on and car will start. Then usually the car will start several times after that. I have ordered an duplicate key, changed ignition switch, change immobilizer and same thing. I have brought it to dodge dealership and they told me it was a bad front body control module and integrated power module. I changed that had it programmed and still same symptom. Please help

Here's the major clue:

"There are NO lights (absolutely no dash lights) on dash and nothing when I turn the key."

Follow the smaller positive battery wire to the under-hood fuse box and be sure that connection is clean and tight. That connection is responsible for intermittently dead electrical systems on almost all car brands and models.

Just had that problem with my 2005 Magnum. turned out the battery holder in key broke and it fell over on to the sensor that activates the antitheft alarm. I was lucky enough to take it apart clean and repair it. otherwise you are looking at least 200.00 for dealer to recode key. Try that or disconnect battery to reset alarm. There are several forums that discuss "our" very problem... Good luck... So much for the "expert" Let me know what happened..

Engine Mechanical problem
2005 Dodge Magnum 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 103086 miles

i have a 05 dodge magnum. just recently, i have had problems starting the vehicle. the radio, the lights, and heater will come and it will not turn over. i found at one time, if i touched the brakes, it would start. now i have to play around with the steering wheel for the car to start. this does not happen all the time. i have had the cables to the battery checked but not on a tester. i have noticed if the radio or cd was left in it takes longer to start. now my seat warmers will not come on. the engine light will come on briefly as well as the anti theft red light and it will not give a code. i havent had to call for a tow truck bc it will eventually crank the shortest 1 minute the longest 20 minutes.
