So when i go to start my truck in the morning it will throw out a little black smoke from the exhaust then start, but then putter and turns off. when i try it again it will stay on but kind of putter until i give it more gas. When the engine warms up though it will be fine with power and everything.

Hi Michael,

These 6.0L are known for sticking/leaking injectors. I would suggest running some CRC diesel injector cleaner through the fuel and changing the fuel filter. I would put a full bottle of this in with about 5-10 gallons of fuel. You want to strong mixture to try and clean up your injectors. If this does not work then more than likely you will need to replace the injectors that are leaking. These are not cheap so if you don't have a scan tool to inspect the engine then I would pay a shop to diagnose it because just replacing them all can get pretty costly.

There is a small chance that this is the fuel injection control module but injectors are more common. Also, because when they warm up it gets better points to injector issues.

Let me know if you have questions. Thanks

This would actually be a leaking injector as well. When these injectors get contaminated and start leaking, they are adding more fuel than commanded. When there is more fuel the RPMs will come up. It is possible there is another issue but I would correct the injectors first and see if the RPM issue is still there.

If it is still there, start a new post so that if others have that issue they can find it. Keep me updated. Thanks
