I'm looking for detailed instruction on how to replace the starter. I've replaced starters on older cars and if it's not too complicated. I'll be replacing one on this car listed above.

The picture just shows how starter comes out. I need to know-how to get to the starter, as the manifold is hiding it. The pictures do not show that .

Yes it tells how to remove starter, but what do you have to take off to get to the starter? The manifold is blocking it at the top.

if you follow the steps you should be able to do this. this was taken form a 1.3L Honda as it does not show a 1.2L. try from bottom if this is not sufficient I apologize as this is all we have.

I have a new starter and I am ready to install it. Is it easier to go from under the car or take the intake manifold off and just work up top?

see pictures for removal and reverse for install. make sure to remove knock sensor for easier access and not to break it. also remove negative battery cable prior to beginning.

Hi ALFRED,

No the manifold stays on, you only take off the manifold to gain access to the starter.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best, Ken

Starter Removal and Installation

Removal

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped), then write down the audio presets.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery first, then disconnect the positive cable.

3. Remove exhaust pipe A.

4. Remove the intake manifold bracket.

5. Remove the harness clamps (A) and harness connector (B) from each clamp.

6. Remove the two bolts securing the starter, then remove the starter from the engine.

7. Disconnect the starter cable (A) from the B terminal. Disconnect the connector (B) from the S terminal, then remove the starter.

INSTALLATION

1. Install the starter cable (A) and connector (B). Make sure the starter cable crimped side of the ring terminal faces away from the starter when you connect it.

2. Install the starter, then loosely install the upper mounting bolt (A) and lower mounting bolt (B).
3. Tighten the upper mounting bolt, then tighten the lower mounting bolt.

4. Install the harness clamps (A) and harness connector (B) to each clamp.

5. Install the intake manifold bracket.

6. Install exhaust pipe A. Use new gaskets (B) and new self-locking nuts (C).
7. Connect the positive cable to the battery first, then connect the negative cable.
8. Start the engine to make sure the starter works properly.
9. Enter the anti-theft code for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped), then enter the audio presets.
10. Set the clock.

Hello, my mechanic is replacing my starter for me. He just called and let me know that he cannot put the new the starter in without taking off the axle. I knew the starter in this car was complicated to get to, but is it that complicated? It just seemed a little odd to me, I was wondering if anyone knew. He said "between the block, plastic (plenum?) that wraps around behind the engine and that axel". I know absolutely nothing about cars so I just want to make sure this does not sound odd.
Thanks in advanced!

Well it is tucked in pretty good. It is almost directly over the axle. I recall that you need to drop the right tire off and an exhaust pipe to get room to work. But I do not think you have to pull the axle to get it out. It may be that he wants more room to work. Hard to say.
If you search youtube with "starter motor 2007 Civic" you can see the process. But as I said he may want more room to work.
