Bought the car listed above it is the SE model. it has been really abused the wiring from the battery post-war really bad. I would not got new posts for it and it was a wire running to the starter was wrapped around and not fully taped to the I believe the negative terminal to the starter, then it was a regular electrical input running somewhere off the engine to the starter and then you had your normal positive while it ran from the battery down to the starter. when I look at the wiring there is a ground braided wire running down right by the positive, but it does not go to the starter. please show me if they are supposed to be ignition switch or ground going to the ignition switch wiring. where everything should go. thank you.

Hello,

Okay, there are no negative wires on the starter. The starter is grounded by being bolted to the transmission housing. The braided wires are grounds and are usually grounded by running from either the engine to the frame or firewall on some models it could run from the hood to firewall.

Their should only be two wires going to the starter. One from the battery of course and a smaller one for the Ignition.

I have attached a picture of what your starter should look like and a wiring diagram.

Hope this helps.
