Starter wire

Hi,

On the starter, there should be a grey and a red one. The red one comes straight from the battery and has 12v all the time. The gray one is smaller in size and only gets 12v when the key is in the start position. That is what engages the starter. If it isn't connected (it comes from the starter relay) the starter will not engage.

I attached a portion of the wiring schematic relevant to this issue. Let me know if it helps or if you have other questions.

So how do i reconnect this grey wire to the starter relay?

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking at. However, the grey wire should to run to the S terminal on the starter. Normally, there is a connector at the end of the wire that you place over the terminal and then a nut holds it on. At the end of the wire that isn't connected, what is there?

I attached a pic of the starter where I am talking about. One terminal is much larger in diameter than the other. The larger one is a heavier cable straight from the battery. The other wire, the grey one, will connect to the other smaller diameter terminal on the battery. If I recall, there may be a plastic shield over the terminals. If you vehicle still has it, remove it to access the terminals.

If possible, can you take a pic of what you are seeing. It will help me better guide you.

Also, and this is important, do not work on the starter without disconnecting the battery first. Make sure to remove the negative battery terminal before starting.
