How long does it take to stall? Will the engine remain running if you hold the accelerator pedal down 1/4"? Was the battery recently disconnected or run dead?

Okay, so there is no fuel getting to the fuel rail so checking for power at the fuel pump, but where? i do not have a lift and i work i do not have a ton of time to drop the tank. so will be doing that is there a fuel pump relay that is not built into the fuse box on that thing that could be causing it? on the stalling part i think it was just starting from fumes cause it started then shut off within a second or two.

Dandy. The first thing to do is to hold the accelerator pedal down 1/4". If the engine stays running that way, the cause is the battery was disconnected recently. The fix is real easy for that.

Next, listen for the hum of the fuel pump for one second when you turn on the ignition switch. If you don't hear that, listen next to the tank while a helper turns the switch on. If you still don't hear it, suspect the pump has failed. Often you can get them started again by banging on the bottom of the tank. When that works, it will almost always stay running until you stop the engine. The problem could act up again the next time you try to start the engine, or it might not act up again for weeks.

If nothing has worked up to now, what I would do is see if the engine will run longer with starting fluid. The fact it runs for a couple of seconds proves it has spark. That eliminates the cause of 95 percent of crank / no-starts. There is usually no separate fuel pump relay. The automatic shutdown, (ASD) relay sends current to the fuel pump and the ignition coils and injectors. That relay has to be turning on if there is spark.

Okay, so the intake manifold was pump back on today and the car would not start at all. then dropped the tank and pulled the fuel line off the pump, had the key turned and no fuel came out. is there another fuel pump relay other then the one built into the fuse box? there was not much online about these vehicles.

Does this vehicle have a fuel pump relay not built into the TIPM? And if it does do you know where it is located?

No fuel pump relay. It is switched on by the TIPM through fuse M25, a 20-amp fuse. Look for the two test points on top of that fuse. You can check for voltage there, but remember, it will only be there for one second when the ignition switch is turned on. That means you'll need a helper to run the switch while you watch for voltage. A test light works best for this because most digital voltmeters don't respond fast enough. Check for voltage on both sides of the fuse. If it appears briefly on one side but not on the other, that fuse is blown.

Oh good. what was the problem after all?

After checking the fuses with multi meter, i started tracing the wires with the multi meter and found a break in the power wire to the fuel pump where the wire comes through the fire wall.

I replaced a water pump on a 2007 Dodge Nitro and now when i start it i have to stay on the gas to keep it running. what would cause that?

Recheck to make sure you didn't leave any vacuum hoses disconnected or damaged. Also, make sure the idle air control valve is connected at the throttle body. If there is a check engine light coming on, have the computer scanned to identify where the problem is coming from. Most parts stores will do it for free.

2008 Dodge Nitro, put in stale/old gas, started runnung rough and stalling. It will start but RPMs just start falling off, will not rev up and not able to stay running before it shuts down. What do you suggest ?

It sounds like the throttle bore is dirty I would clean it by disconnecting the battery first. Follow this guide
