My car has started to make a loud squealing/screeching noise.
It starts after about ten minutes of driving. It is not making a noise whilst I am driving, it is when I am stationary at lights etc.
If i put slight revs on the noise goes away, but as soon as i stop at lights or roundabouts and have no revs on the car its screeching like mad.
Took it into the garage today. They have replaced two belts and its still doing the same thing. My other half said to just keep my foot on revs at the lights and do not worry about it, but i cannot. It is so embarrassing. It stops as soon as you switch off the car. Any ideas please?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

I understand the belts were replaced, but were all belt driven accessories checked to make sure they weren't starting to lock up or have bad bearings? Your description sounds belt related, but since it was replaced, that's what I would check.

Try this, start the engine and open the hood. While you hear the noise, pour a small amount of water on the spinning belts. See if that changes the pitch of the noise.

For obvious reasons, keep your hands, clothing, hair etc, away from the belts. Also, you may want to wear old clothes and safety glasses in case the water flings back at you.

Let me know what you find. It's an easy way to determine if the noise is related to the belts or one of the accessories.
