Squealing engine

Good morning,

I am concerned my dealer mechanic is unreliable. I went in a few months ago to get a few major check ups (90,000 and 105,000 - I have a replacement engine, so my car is 123,000 miles, but my engine is about 92,000).

They "forgot" to replace my belt during these major checkups, and I started hearing squealing, so I went back to get both the A/C and timing belts replaced.

It is a couple months later and the squealing when I start my car and accelerate is getting worse! I do not feel like I am getting the best service at my dealership, but I also don't want to blame anyone if it just so happens to be a new problem.

Can you please help me?

Good morning,

Take a spray bottle of water and spray it on the belts and see if it goes away.

If it does, either the belt is loose or the belt is stretching already.

If the sound does not go away, you get from most auto stores a stethoscope like doctors {a couple of dollars} and use it by pinpointing whether it is a belt or pulley.

The next step would be to remove the belt and spin each component listening for any abnormal noise.

that would work but found that some pulleys don't make a sound unless under pressure.

Look for any play in the pulleys as well.

As ASEMASTER6371 recommends, also wiggle the each pulley to see if there is any play.

I just got both belts replaced a month ago. Do they not replace the pulleys in the process?

Thank you to you both. I appreciate the help!

No, they will not unless there is any play or noise. Then they should notify you of the additional charges for replacing them.
