My speedometer drops ten to fifteen mph while driving at highway speed then returns. This also will shut off my cruise control if it is on. The cruise also will shut off without the speedometer dropping. I have had this to a mechanic and drove it with a reader connected. It showed an upward spike in the speed graph. We were thinking the speed sensor?

then check to see if cluster is getting signal it may be a wiring issue or the dash needs to be rebuilt. If it is not getting a signal replace the speeds ensor here is the location of the sensor and a video of the job being done for the cluster replacement with a rebuilt unit.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Have the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) checked. If it is good, then there is a good chance the cluster itself may be bad.

Let me know what you find.

My speedometer is pegged at 120mph and won't move. I have already replaced the speed sensor but that was not the problem. Is there a part to be replaced? I can't seem to find anything on the internet.

most likely you will have to replace the IP cluster. You can go to your dealer and have a sweep test performed on it to see if it will start working. But i think you need a cluster

i would suggest buying one form a dealer, they have a warranty and will stand behind it if something goes wrong. i have had nothing but problems with parts purchased off the internet

You need to replace the instrument panel cluster. This is a common problem with these trucks. You will have to get it programmed at a dealership.

You need to call a dealership and make sure there are no recalls or TSB's. If there is not, you can find used instrument clusters for not much $ and you shouldn't pay more than an hours labor to have it replaced. Hope this helps!

All my gauges are not working. The speed odometer, tach, fuel, temp etc won't register. Has a fuse that controls all these gauges blown or is this more serious? Thank you

I was driving and tried to use my cruise control then all of a sudden my speedometer went to zero and he wouldn't shift.
I can manually shift it from first to second but that's it. It allows me to rev high while I'm driving. I replaced the vehicle speed sensor and a wheel speed sensor with no luck. Also have an ABS and brake light on. No codes involving either on my cheap code reader.

Do you have any codes? As I was reading, I was suspect a vehicle speed sensor but you have an input and output speed sensor. Do you know which one you replaced? Was there a reason you replaced it or were you guessing at what it could be?

Let's start with checking for codes and which speed sensor you replaced and we can go from there. Thanks

Not a mechanic or anything, so please bare with me. I only replaced 1 VSS and it was on then passenger side on the rear of my transmission. Only codes are p0101 and p0332.

So you were correct that there were no codes that appear to relate to this issue. Included the MAF info for reference at this point.

Was the check engine light on when this was happening? Is the vehicle still acting up?

I also attached the location of the speed sensors. Was the location of the sensor you replace #2 or was it in the tail shaft?

It feels like we are missing something so we are going to have to work through this until we find the missing piece.

So the only codes that were shown prior to this were the same ones I listed which included a code for an 02 sensor which I ended up figuring out (blown fuse).
All of the speedometer not working and not shifting happened at the same time. Still currently having the issue. According to your pictures, I replaced number 2.

I am sorry. I should have been more specific. Do you know which transmission you have? Either the 4L60E or 4L80E?

If the sensor was in the location shown in the first attachment then you have the 60. If it was in the second attachment #2 then you have the 80. This makes a difference because the speedometer and shifting are determined differently.

If you have the 60 then you only have the one sensor. The 80 has two so we need to make sure we know what we are working with or we are going to get really confused (more then currently).

The difference of the two sensor locations is the 60 is in the tail shaft and the 80 as the rear sensor just over the rear of the trans pan.

Okay. That is good news and bad news. Good news is, I think I know how we can find out what the issue is. Bad news is, we need to monitor the data from the PCM which means we need a scan tool that can do that.

Take a look at the wiring diagram. This is the vehicle speed sensor to the PCM, which shares the data with the throttle actuator control module.

The thing that tipped me towards this was that you tried to use the cruise control and this happened all of a sudden. The thing that I can't figure out is why you have no codes. This is why we need to monitor what the PCM is seeing.

Also, I doubt this is the issue because you have no codes but check the fuses in the second attachment. These are the fuses related to the cruise and I suppose they could cause an issue like this. Again, the no codes thing is throwing me off.

Let me know if you have good fuses and then if you have access to a scan tool so we can see what the speed sensor is telling the PCM.
