My car was outside for several days in sub-zero temperatures around -4°F. Today I drove a car, but there is no indication of the speed of the car on the board. What node could fail? And where is this node?

Hi,

The speedometer is controlled by a speed sensor, module, and instrument cluster. By chance, is the check engine light on? Also, is the odometer working?

What you may need to do is have the can-bus scanned. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link showing how it is done:

Let me know as much as you can. For example, are any of the other gauges not working properly? Does the transmission shift properly?

Take care,

Joe

I'm sorry, but I gave you inaccurate information. In fact, only one center board has stopped showing speed. All the other instruments are working. See the photo. The question remains the same, which unit is malfunctioning? Unfortunately, I cannot take your advice to buy a scanner as I am not in the USA.

Hi,

Do you mean the digital speedometer isn't working? Does anything work on the center portion?

Without a scan tool, I'm not sure which direction to go. There could be a wiring issue with the cluster, the cluster itself may have failed, there could be a breakdown in communication via the can-bus, and so on.

Make sure the connection at the rear of the cluster is tight and fully seated. Also, I attached the wiring schematic below of the instrument cluster. Take a look through it and let me know if it helps.

The schematics were two pages long. I had to cut each page in half to make it readable for you. I did overlap them so you can follow from one to the next.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

You are very welcome. I wish I could do more. If you determine the issue, could you let me know? I am interested in what you find.

Take care,

Joe
