There are no check engine lights on but getting service engine soon and service stability system soon on display screen. all other gauges working. I hope it might be the speed sensor it would be easy to fix. but not getting a check engine light warning. can't afford to take it to a shop. Can you test a speed sensor? i would appreciate your help. thanks

It does sounds like the transmission output sensor is not working here is the location of the sensor so you can check it out. You can test the sensor by tapping into the sensor wiring harness and setting your voltameter to millivolts, then spin both axles the same way and should observe voltage if the sensor is working. here the job is being done on an ABS wheel speeds sensor but the process is the same.

Thanks for the info. isn't there a speed sensor on the right rear of transmission? If so, could that be the problem? really didn't want to pull pan. It said with 7 in vin is that the eighth digit. Also, what about the filter, do i need to replace? haven't had any problems with trans. Thanks for your help. It is appreciated. I'll be waiting for response. have a good day.

It does look like the sensor is inside the transmission pan. I would do a filter as well and make a transmission service out of it.

Here is a guide that can help:

Hi Ken, thanks for the info but can you please tell me if the speed sensor at right rear of transmission will (fix) the speedometer, odometer, and cruise instead of pulling the pan on transmission? The check engine light is not on, the car runs okay, the transmission works okay. had it hooked to code reader shows no codes. Please help as soon as possible. thank you very much.

If the problem is not the sensor which without a code, it might not be or the PCM is bad. If it was a circuit error, you would have a code for that as well. Let's try a CAN scan to see if anything comes up, you can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) from Amazon for about $36.00.

Here is a video to show you how:

Amazon CAN scanner link for about $36.00.
