I recently had my lifters replaced on my vehicle. The next day it had a little smoke and a terrible smell. I called the mechanic and he said that it was from a small spill of oil on my manifold. It would clear up. Well, it’s a week, still bad smell and a little smoke. Today the check engine light is on.

Hello, sounds like he didn't do something right, and did he say why you needed new lifters at 88,000 miles? Was the engine making a lot of higher pitched ticking noises? If it's smoking then oil is leaking on the exhaust somewhere, most likely the valve cover gasket if he was messing around with the lifters. I would bring it back and tell them you want your money back and take it to a different shop, you shouldn't need lifters at such low mileage.
If the check engine light is on there is a code stored in the engine computer, meaning there is something wrong. He may have left something unplugged while doing the work.
Here is the correct oil type and capacity if there were any noises from the top of the engine. It may have had the wrong engine oil in it to begin with. Most quick lube places throw whatever oil they have in the vehicles that come in.

Pages 2 to 4 are some safety Recalls for your vehicle as well. The dealership should take care of these for free in most situations.

Did he say anything about oil pressure? And do you get regular oil changes? Seems premature failure of the lifters. But with the check engine light being on, if you go to AutoZone or Advanced Auto, whatever you have for a local parts store, they should be able to scan the computer for free and tell you what the code is, if you write the code number down, we can tell you what might be causing it. Don't let them tell you what the problem is, they will try to sell you a part just from a code number, but that is not the correct way of diagnosing an issue. The code will give directions as to what may be happening. My guess is it's probably a connector or wire since the engine has been apart recently. It will most likely be a "P" followed by 4 numbers. i.e. P0300 for example. That is a powertrain code. But write down the exact code. As for the oil burning on the exhaust, the leak will have to be found. Which shouldn't be that difficult, wherever the smoke is coming from.
