Slow ignition

The car will often start first time but then for a short period it will struggle then ignite after approximately ten seconds. It is frustrating, but then starts suddenly. Plugs etc., have been checked, battery is good. All checked by a mechanic.
They said it could be a crank shaft sensor problem.

A bad sensor will not always set a code. What should be done is this. When the symptoms are present, a scanner, which can read live data, should be used to determine if the sensor is failing. If it is, it should be replaced.

If there is no failure from the sensor, I would then recommend checking fuel pump pressure to see if a pump is failing. Here is a link that describes how to perform that process. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend you one.
