Cooling fan Relay

Just last night i was in bed i could hear what i thought was my engine running but it was my Cooling Fan, took car to dealers they said that I need a control unit costing £350 I searched ebay and found some Cooling fan Relay listed for under £20, it this what makes my fan come on when the engine is stopped and its like -15 degrees temp outside the fan would not switch off ethier. also is this unit easy to locate.

HI hoping i can get some advice
my 1.9tdi 2004 skoda octavia has developed a random fault.
the front 2 fans behind teh radiator stay on after the ignition is turned off. i know this is the case sometimes but. they stay on until the battery runs flat.
if i remove the fuse on the box above the battery they stop and do not come back on.
but i dont fancy having to do this every time.
i have sprayed wd40 over the electric connectors in case there is water shorting them but im sure i read that they was a recall/fault on some ecu's regarding the fan speed sensor( i may have that wrong).
all advice will be appreicated

check with your local dealer regarding recall .. check replace the coolant temp sensor

sorry for not updating
it was the relay under the battery
forgot what its name is but it was £62
all sorted no problems since
and its a hell of a size considering its a relay

Our database does not have any information on your vehicle so I do not know the exact system used on your vehicle.

For electrical fans, you need to test the motor to see if it is functional. Ensure coolant level is correct. Lack of coolant can prevent the fans from operating.

If the fan motor is bad, it has to be replaced and if not, you would need to check the wiring, fuses and relay.
