Shuttering when going up a hill or grade

The transmission shifts fine. When going up a hill or grade and putting the car under a load it starts shuttering and sounding like it is going over a rumble strip. Let off the gas and it quits and goes like it is supposed to except under its own power but lose speed.

Have you checked fuel pump pressure? Also, have you checked to make sure the catalytic converter isn't plugged? Does the check engine light stay on or flash when this is happening?
