Shudder while driving

My car started to occasionally shudder while driving from California to Reno Nevada. There is no engine noise, no smoke from the exhaust of under the hood just a random shudder. It does not happen all the time, probably about ten times in the span of two hours. We had already driven from northern Alberta. We have been on the road for about four days now. I have changed the fuel filter and air filter already.
